The Uplifting Africa Program

The Uplifting Africa Program is dedicated to building positive relations between America, Eurasia, and Africa. There are many areas where peoples and nations can come together and heal the wounds inflicted by war, poverty, disease, and climatic change. In order to ensure the peaceful development of progress for peoples, tribes, and nations, we must collaborate and exchange ideas, knowledge, and innovation which becomes essential for making the world a better place to live. This will also ensure that the environment, including its animal species are preserved and enhanced, so that future generations may thrive and enjoy the wonders of Africa.

    PROGRAMS OF UPLIFTING AFRICA

African Security, Preventing Terrorism, Promoting Peaceful Resolution of Conflict

Africa has increasing bore the brunt of terrorism throughout the continent. In Libya, Tunisia, Mali and Nigeria, ISIS and other related terrorist groups have carried out operations which have taxed the relative strength of the police and armed forces of each country to combat such terrorism. Elsewhere on the African continent, civil war in such nations as the Sudan and the Congo have decimated opportunities for peace and prosperity in regions blessed with important natural resources. The Eurasia Center’s African Program promotes new solutions for combating terrorism and supporting the peaceful resolution of conflict within these important areas.

Our Africa Program explores the complexity and dynamics that tip countries into violence but enable others to resolve their grievances peacefully. Our analysis and discussion of enduring conflict in war torn areas examines the prospects for peace and considers what role the United Nations can play in bringing warring parties to the negotiating table.

Our Program also seeks to understand current security threats, anticipate risks to stability, and use of international and African-led security initiatives. Our current areas of focus include terrorism in  Nigeria, Sudan and the Congo, as well as other parts of Africa.

Energy and Environment (which will handle drought/flood questions)

Africa has a tremendous potential to control its tremendous natural energy resources and reverse decades of neglect with respect to its environmental policies. Many measures can be implemented to control devastation from seasonal flooding and drought. African nations can devote more resources toward creating the right infrastructure and habitats for its people and wildlife to thrive.

At the Eurasia Center, we are concerned about the massive protection challenges raised by disasters and climate-related displacement. We work with other agencies and a range of partners to protect those at risk. We are analyzing programs and initiatives aimed at improving sustainable environmental management, reducing environmental degradation, and enhancing the resources available for displaced and their host communities.

Our program supports governments’ capacity to develop, approve, finance, and construct power systems. We work with host governments to launch or further develop delivery units charged with driving progress on specific projects. These delivery units will help increase technical skills and accelerate energy sector regulation with a better market structure, enabling environment reforms.

Our Program is also committed to providing an in-depth understanding of the current trends shaping Africa’s energy industry, from a national and regional perspective, and deep-look analysis on the main political, socio-economic, and security risks facing the oil and gas industry in African countries.

Social Issues - Public Health, Preventing Disease/Epidemics, Gender Equity, Women's Issues

Africa has been stricken with many serious diseases, AIDS, Ebola, malaria, and tuberculosis to name a few. Preventative medicine, vaccinations and new forms of research are helping reverse devastating trends which have plagued the continent for centuries. In addition, gender issues and changing attitudes toward the role of women are important toward uplifting Africa in many important areas.

The Eurasia Center’s Uplifting Africa Program analyzes the wide range of health-related initiatives that are being delivered to address the needs of the countries and communities. We highlight health aid programs which are successful in addressing inequities, support universal access to services, and produce long lasting results. Our urgent approach to analyzing and highlighting health-related issues strengthens local partners, develops local solutions and focuses in remote areas often neglected by existing health and social service systems.
    Our health programs analyze:
    • Covid-19 in Africa
    • Malaria
    •  HIV and Tuberculosis
    •  Maternal and Child Health
    •  Child Well-being and Protection
    •  Access to Clean Water, Water Purification
Our program promotes efforts to empower women to adopt sustainable practices in environmental husbandry, including farming, fishing, solar energy, forestry, water retention and purification, agriculture and agronomy, green spaces promotion and protection, waste and drainage management, product conservation, transformation, sale and microfinance.
Economic Issues - Infrastructure Development, Equity issues, Migration

Africa is on the cusp of a great economic turning point. Many nations are facing economic vulnerability due to the downturn in oil, commodity prices, as well as the effects of Covid-19. However, as nations wisely invest in future infrastructure development, Africa continues to be a great potential frontier economy and market which can blossom and grow. Still the effects of migration and equity issues are important factors weighing the future of Africa’s fragile economies down. The Eurasia Center’s African Program will conduct vital research and offer solutions to the current economic problems facing Africa.

Our developmental program aims to focus on efforts which combat poverty and support people who are excluded and to care for their common needs. It works alongside and in solidarity with people who are still live below the poverty line, whether they live in developing or under developing countries.

It further promotes a hunger-free world in which nations peacefully co-exist, providing for ourselves and protecting our planet. Our major focus analyzing the root causes and multiple effects of poverty, as well as making the empowered voices of communities heard.

Our Program supports regional integration in transport, energy, transboundary water and telecommunication/ICT through improved regional infrastructure of the African Union Treaty.

    Education

Our African program is design to support communities, local partners and governments in their efforts to ensure that all children–including the most vulnerable and marginalized—have access to a quality education.

Our education projects analyze a wide-range of activities, such as early childhood development, school food programs, and primary, secondary, and higher education in both formal and informal settings.

At Eurasia Center, we recognize that education can be a force for either inclusion and acceptance, or exclusion and conflict.  It is important to engage a wide variety of people to ensure that schools play a positive role in building a culture of peace. Our program highlights initiatives that play an important effort in this process.

    New Uplifting Africa Report

The Directors of the Uplifting Africa Program regularly publish new Uplifting Africa Reports which highlight and analyze the important trends, opportunities, and strategic priorities that the nations of Africa need to focus on in order to uplift the continent of Africa. Together with the leaders of Africa, Ambassadors of Africa in Washington, DC, and officials in their respective nations, our Uplifting Africa team will highlight the resources and expertise that governments and organizations in America, Europe and Asia have to offer. These efforts will have more impact if world assistance is better channeled in a concerted action to help Africa. Together such efforts can further develop economic prosperity in Africa, particularly during the Covid-19 challenge. Africans, nations, and like-minded organizations, and citizens will seek to build a more peaceful future for all the diverse peoples of Africa.
